The “Make More Homestucks” Megapause Initiative! PART 2

toochstuck:

A month ago when the hiatus started I made a post asking Homestucks to try (not in a pushy or rude way) to get their non-Homestuck friends to use this long hiatus to read the comic!

It even includes a handy list of Need-to-knows before reading!

Well now there’s another way to get your friends to read Homestuck!

LET’S READ HOMESTUCK!

Up-and-coming voice acting troupe The CoLab, of which I am an actor in, has been working diligently to voice-act ALL of Homestuck for people who don’t want to or are unable to read the comic themselves!

We even have the videos organized by Act right there on the front page for your convenience!

We’ve got over 20 hours of video and we update every week, so even though we’re not caught-up with the comic and probably won’t be when the hiatus is done, Let’s Read Homestuick will get any new Homestuck well on their way!

For more info about CoLab you can follow us on Twitter and Tumblr!

((trying to get more Homestuck fans and I’m also trying to get more CoLab fans now that we’ve got the new channel and logo and everything.))

just want to give a shout-out to brassbuddy for pissing off all of his/her followers by reblogging damn near every one of my entries back to back

that takes fucking borderline stalker levels of dedication

and as long as its the sexy kind of stalker that is alright with me

good thing being a fan of this blog automatically verifies that you are in fact sexy as all get out because only the amazingly attractive have good enough tastes to appreciate the patented strider brand of Q&A

Also follow him if you’re not already. He likes homestuck and cartoons and STUFF and he’s super cute.

((YES I’m going OOC just to gush about my amazing boyfriend and hopefully get him followers on his birthday. DO SOMETHIN’!))

i figured we can call it a day after this one question

it was pretty loaded

or just a load

ask me shit here

((OOC Livestream with Afina (Terezi) and me at 9PM EST))
((Hello~ o w o I just wanted to say that I really love your Dave, and your voice, and your acting, and everything about you o u o Please keep up the good work <3 ))

((Thank you! I tried to have an episode up this week, but I’m SWAMPED in university work. I’m graduating in four weeks, so I’m really trying to focus and get all my work done. I’ll have something this weekend for sure!

- Tooch))

((Okay, so I ran into a Homestuck at the 2nd & Charles in Newark, Delaware on Friday. She was wearing a long-sleeved Dave shirt and was with her brother & mom.

I didn’t really get the opportunity to go up and talk to her much other than to compliment her shirt and awesome cartoon-looking bag that I’ve seen around Tumblr before. I figured from the mom’s perspective it would look creepy if a college guy walked up and started chatting familiarly with her daughter because they have stuff in common FROM THE INTERNET (gasp).

So on the slim chance she is one of the 2000+ people following this blog and sees this……sup.))

none of these questions are non-canon nor are any of my answers but rest assured i am not currently in a big stupid Stonehenge field with John and everyone

toochstuck:

Homestuck is on a Megapause hiatus for the next few months so I think we should use this opportunity to get as many of our on-the-fence non-Homestuck friends to read it as much as we possibly can!

So I’ll just put all the need-to-know basic stuff here and reblog & link this to whoever…

NOTE: If you give it a shot and you’re just not feeling it at all, it’s okay. Nothing can be universally liked. No one should judge you or look down on you for not liking a thing. So with that out of the way…

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE READING HOMESTUCK:
- What IS Homestuck? It’s a web-comic. A comic on the web. But while most webcomics just have your normal full-page or strip with panels and speech-bubbles, Homestuck has static panels, animated .gifs, flash animations complete with amazing music, and even interactive game sections! (which the whole point of them are for PLOT. Don’t go all Gamer and try to complete is as fast as possible, it’s not a REAL game, you’ll be missing out on everything!)
- The art’s not bad, there’s more than 1 art style, and there’s multiple artists. Starting-out though Hussie does all the art, and he’s emulating pixelly old-school adventure-games, so that’s why it looks like it does. Hussie himself is a really good artist, but he’s going for a specific tone here. It’s fine if you don’t like it, but don’t treat it like an objective flaw.
- Read the pesterlogs. Some people miss this, but it’s the comic’s dialogue. You literally have to, they’re the replacement for speech-bubbles.
- The first 4 Acts or so had readers GIVE Hussie commands which is why some of the pages seem really random and out of nowhere. He just used fan-commands to name the characters and establish the overall feel of the comic. Hussie completely takes the reigns over eventually.
- Don’t skip the Midnight Crew Intermission. It seems like it has nothing to do with the main plot, but it does. (Also, I love the Midnight Crew intermission personally…)
- You aren’t formally introduced to the trolls until Act 5. They show up sporadically before then, but yeah as much as the fandom loves them they’re not TECHNICALLY the main characters starting out.
- A lot of people will tell you “Keep reading it gets better after Act 1” but FUCK THAT, the first couple acts are pretty different from the rest of the comic in terms of pacing and, but they have their own qualities to them. No one told ME Act 1 sucked, I read that shit and I loved it! SO YEAH.
- “I refuse to read it because the fandom sucks” is a stupid excuse, because EVERY fandom has obnoxious moronic people in it, because the whole world is full of assholes. Go to ANY fandom and you’ll find them. Honestly, I’ve met some of my closest and best friends in this fandom, and as long as you stay away from the idiots, which thankfully I’ve managed to do pretty well, you’ll find great people too, just like anywhere else.
- You don’t have to read Problem Sleuth or any other MS Paint Adventure before Homestuck. Most of them are incomplete anyway. You can go back and read Problem Sleuth later, because it is a really funny comic and Homestuck references it sometimes (and the older MSPAs as well) but you don’t NEED to know that to understand Homestuck. It’s more like interesting trivia facts. You’ll never even know you’re missing anything, trust me.

I think that’s everything? If you want to add anything else you can include in your reblog go right ahead, especially if you’re trying to convince a specific friend with specific hang-ups. But again, don’t be antagonistic about it and don’t force the issue.

I HOPE THIS ACTUALLY WORKS OR I WROTE A BUNCH OF SHIT FOR NOTHING,
